Free Write

If the world were to end suddenly I think it would be a world were everyone turned into zombies and those zombies would turn other humans into zombies The zombies would have a strong belief in lawlessness and anarchy the world would become a rioting mess and everyone would die by the hand of everyone else to only a few were left to see the destroyed earth.

My future relates to Philip K Dicks in that the idea of androids who have no empathy would be similar to the zombies who I described. The only difference is that zombies would try to turn other humans into zombies.

The lighting of the scene was very dark, only half of Rachael and Rick's faces were seen. The dialogue was very brief and did not move much. The costumes were very dark as well and very plain. Every part about the scene was very boring, dark, and did not move much. This scene relates to the rest of the movie in that it is always dark, foggy, and mysterious. It never reveals any more information than needed to understand what the person speaking is trying to get across.

The effects of dialogue and music are to create a dramatic scene for the audience. It is raining in the scene as well to create a dramatic feel. Rick is ment to feel empathy in the scene for the androids. I don't think Rick is crying, I just think rain is falling down his face but he is definitely dead serious about what he is hearing from the android. I think we definitely see the empathy in his face for Roy.

I think Deckard will retire from the police force and get the percheron horse.

My research question is concerning what is going to happen when oil ends. As oil continues to increase and likely be gone by the turn of the century. Some of the information I have found is that we are already on the second half of oil in the Earth's crust. This second half of oil is the oil that is harder to get too. The lack of oil is likely to cause world conflict in the future. Most people think that technology will save us this is unlikely. Our standard of living is going to have to change if we are to save the Earth from the impending oil crisis.

The Shining

The horror movie I chose was The Shining. In the shining a family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter. The winter weather will eventually leave this hotel secluded and unable to be reached. All the roads will be blocked off do to the severe weather and the family will spend the entire winter watching the hotel. The hotel is said to be haunted and have a spiritual presence. This spiritual presence leads to the Jack(the father) going mad. Jack sees ghosts for the next month. While Jack is taking on the responsibility of winter caretaker of The Overlook Hotel he is also working on a writing project. His writing project goes no where. When the owner of the hotel gets a premonition that something is wrong he takes a flight back to Colorado to investigate. When he gets there he sees Jack's type writer repeating the words "All work and no play make Jack a very dull boy".

Farenheit 451

The movie I chose to see was Farenheit 451. The film's main character is Montag. Montag is a part of the fire department. In this futuristic setting, the fireman's job is too burn books instead of put out fires. A lot of people including his wife are hooked to the TV and on a lot of prescription drugs. He questions the idea of burning books as the movie progresses. He himself even takes books himself and reads them. His wife rats him out for doing so. Montag is taken to his house were he commits the murder of his police chief when he is asked to burn his own books. Montag's neighbor told him of a secret society were people represent certain books. He runs away to this colony and joins them.
Overall, I thought the movie was very interesting. I read the book a couple years ago and really liked it. I like the storyline of the movie although it is kind of slow and not very dramatic. It is interesting to watch the change of heart of Montag as he starts to reason through what he is doing. I thought it was a fairly good movie for being so old and would recommend it to anyone.

Objectified

I found the documentary very interesting. One of the things that caught my eye was Marc who had a collection of objects he was just interested in using in some way. Almost creating an object so he could use another certain object.  Another thing I found interesting was the building of chairs and the talk of why every chair we sit on is not comfortable. I've sat in a chair and complained about it being designed weird and not being comfortable but never really thought about the dynamics that go into making it. A third thing I found interesting was the talk of how functional and simplified the company Apple was. Everything they make seems to be made with the least parts possible, making everything they make really efficient.

Blade Runner Film

The ending scene with Roy and Deckard was one of the worst scene's of the already bad film. The film had already built up to a terrible ending. Roy pleading for empathy while Deckard struggled to get away from Roy who had broke 3 of his fingers. I think this scene was just poor all around. The fact that Deckard just sat there and watched Roy die as he released a dove was really anti climatic.

Do Androids Dream

A scene I found interesting in Do Androids Dream, was in chapter 5 where Rachael Rosen is put through a test for to see if she is android or human.  The test reads her muscle reactions to certain stimulus put in front of her. Deckard asks her certain questions to see her body reactions to them.  This would be interesting to test on certain people today. I think I would have a hard time keeping a straight face through a test like that.    I don't know that my muscle reactions would quite match up with what I was thinking.

Chapter 11 of A&B

Something that stood out in Chapter 11 when I read through it was locally and globally revising your draft. Locally and globally revising will require me to go back and look at my essay in a different way. When I read through it I will now not only look at the sentence structure and just a few sentences at a time but the piece as a whole. I know when I write I sometimes just run off on a tangent then read through and edit as I go instead of looking at the whole picture. I liked one of the quotes it gave as a reason why revising is so important "meaning is not what you start out with but what you end up with", A&B.

Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?

The first four chapters of  Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? gave us a main character with the name of Rick Deckard who is a bounty hunter of androids. Rick is on search of nexus 6 androids that look exactly like humans and do not want there cover blown. I do not understand why these androids where built to look exactly like humans. If it is a possibility for us to create those androids in the first place, I don't see why they could not have been built to look more like robots. Besides that fact it is interesting to see the kind of mind warping advertisement that is shouting from the TV sets. The steady progress of advertisement today definitely seems to play along with the books portrayal of ads in a apocalyptic era.

A&B

One of the most interesting parts of the first three chapters of  The Allyn & Bacon Guide To Writing is on page 22. On page 22, the authors talk about How Writers Think about Audience. Some of the questions that a lot of writers ask about there audience are questions like: How busy are my readers? What are my reader's motives for reading? What is my relationship with my readers? How interested are my readers in my topic? Do my readers already care about the subject? This idea was very interesting to me because it is new. In previous years of writing, there has not really been much thought to who the audience would be. The assignment was given and I was asked to right about a topic. My thoughts were get this done as fast as I can so it will be done and out of my way. I never had the thought to look into who would be reading this paper if it were not just for a school assignment.  This definitely changed my ideas about writing and all the aspects that go into being a good writer. Next time I sit down with a paper I will definitely ask these questions about my paper's audience.

So it begins...

English 151. I am a first time blogger, so I am a little nervous about entering the blogging world. I hope one day to clime the ranks of blogging and go down in history as one of the greatest bloggers ever to come through Eng 151. Basically this class is going to focus on the apocalypse and exploring it in fiction and film. The blogs purpose is for the class and will correlate with the theme of the apocalypse. The type of reading that I am most accustomed to is through Facebook, magazines, and reading articles all over the web.
